Welcome to the Computer Support section of the Just-Ben Public Guides.
This section contains step-by-step guides for diagnosing and resolving computer problems.
The goal of these guides is not to throw a bunch of possible fixes at a problem and hope something works. Instead, they are designed to narrow down the cause one test at a time.
A step-by-step troubleshooting guide for a Windows gaming PC that freezes or becomes unresponsive while gaming.
The guide covers testing and gathering information about:
Start the Gaming PC Freezing Troubleshooting Guide
This is one of the most important rules when diagnosing a computer problem.
If you change five things and the problem disappears, you have no idea which of those five things actually fixed it.
A good troubleshooting process looks like this:
Make ONE change → Test → Record the result → Continue
If a guide tells you to STOP AND TEST, do exactly that before moving on.
If you're following one of these guides because someone asked you to, you may be asked to take screenshots of test results.
When taking a screenshot:
Sometimes a detail that doesn't seem important can be exactly what identifies the problem.
If a guide asks you to collect information and then stop, don't start changing settings based on something you found.
For example, discovering an error in Windows does not necessarily mean the component mentioned in the error needs to be replaced.
Likewise:
Diagnose first. Fix second.
Avoid unplugging a running computer from the wall whenever possible.
If Windows is completely frozen and normal shutdown isn't possible, press and hold the computer's physical power button for approximately 5–10 seconds.
This should force most desktop computers to shut down.
Disconnecting power should be a last resort.
Repeatedly removing power while Windows is running can cause filesystem corruption and potentially create additional problems.
When working through a troubleshooting guide, keep a simple record of each test.
For example:
Test 1: Froze after approximately 4 minutes. Picture stopped moving, but audio continued.
Test 2: Played for 20 minutes without Discord. No freeze.
Test 3: Reliability Monitor shows a hardware error at approximately the same time as yesterday's freeze.
Even results that seem unimportant can help narrow down the cause.

Important
These guides provide general troubleshooting information. Computer hardware, software, and configurations vary considerably. If you're uncomfortable performing a step, stop rather than guessing or forcing something.
